Terms Used In Michigan Laws 324.31709

  • Dewatering well: means a well or pump that is used to remove water from a mining operation or that is used for a limited time period as part of a construction project to remove or pump water from a surface or subsurface area and ceases to be used upon completion of the construction project or shortly after completion of the construction project.   • Groundwater: means the water in the zone of saturation that fills all of the pore spaces of the subsurface geologic material. See Michigan Laws 324.31701
  • High-capacity well: means 1 or more water wells associated with an industrial or processing facility, an irrigation facility, or a farm that, in the aggregate from all sources and by all methods, have the capability of withdrawing 100,000 or more gallons of groundwater in 1 day. See Michigan Laws 324.31701
  This part does not apply to a potential groundwater dispute involving either of the following:
  (a) A high-capacity well that is a dewatering well.
  (b) A high-capacity well that is used solely for the purpose of fire suppression.
