  • Department: means the department of natural resources. See Michigan Laws 324.78101
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.    The local units of government of this state, within the jurisdiction of which are situated inland waterways connected with or connecting the waters of the Great Lakes, or within which channels to nearby inland lakes and streams may be constructed or opened for navigation and shelter of light draft vessels, may by majority vote of their respective legislative bodies enter into contracts and agreements with the department in carrying out the purposes of this part. In addition, the public colleges and universities of the state may enter into contracts and agreements with the department in carrying out the purposes of this part.
