  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Deed: The legal instrument used to transfer title in real property from one person to another.
  • Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.    The department of history, arts, and libraries may acquire and maintain historic sites for use by the public. The department of history, arts, and libraries may receive lands or rights to lands in the name of the state and for the benefit of the public by either purchase or gift. The department of history, arts, and libraries may enter into contracts for the purchase of historic sites listed on the state register of historic sites, and on fulfillment of the terms and conditions in a contract may accept a deed or deeds.
