Subdivision 1.Applicability.

For the purposes of sections 148B.29 to 148B.392, the following terms have the meanings given.

Subd. 2.Board.

  • Person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, and to partnerships and other unincorporated associations. See Minnesota Statutes 645.44

“Board” means the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy created in section 148B.30.

Subd. 2a.Licensee.

“Licensee” means a person who is licensed by the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy.

Subd. 3.Marriage and family therapy.

“Marriage and family therapy” means the process of providing professional marriage and family psychotherapy to individuals, married couples, and family groups, either singly or in groups. The practice of marriage and family therapy utilizes established principles that recognize the interrelated nature of the individual problems and dysfunctions in family members to assess, understand, and treat emotional and mental problems. Marriage and family therapy includes premarital, marital, divorce, and family therapy, and is a specialized mode of treatment for the purpose of resolving emotional problems and modifying intrapersonal and interpersonal dysfunction.
