1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, any person licensed as a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant under this chapter may apply to the state board of registration for the healing arts for an inactive license status on a form furnished by the board. Upon receipt of the completed inactive status application form and the board’s determination that the licensee meets the requirements established by the board by rule, the board shall declare the licensee inactive and shall place the licensee on an inactive status list. A person whose license is inactive or who has discontinued his or her practice because of retirement shall not practice his or her profession within this state. Such person may continue to use the title of his or her profession or the initials of his or her profession after such person’s name.

2. If a licensee is granted inactive status, the licensee may return to active status by notifying the board in advance of his or her intention, paying the appropriate fees, and meeting all established requirements of the board as a condition of reinstatement.
