81-9-401. Definitions. (1) “Animal hide” means the hide of a bovine, equine, mule, ass, sheep, goat, or swine of any age, sex, or breed.

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Person: includes a corporation or other entity as well as a natural person. See Montana Code 1-1-201
  • Sex: means the organization of the body parts and gametes for reproduction in human beings and other organisms. See Montana Code 1-1-201
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Montana Code 1-1-201

(2)”Hide certificate” means a certificate showing a transfer of ownership of animal hides.

(3)”Hide dealer” or “buyer” means, for the purpose of this part, every person, firm, corporation, or association engaged in the business of buying or selling animal hides. However, licensed slaughterhouses shall not be deemed hide dealers or buyers.

(4)”Inspector” means a state stock inspector or deputy state stock inspector, as defined in 81-3-201, appointed by the department of livestock.

(5)”Seller” means a person selling or delivering animal hides for or without a pecuniary consideration.
