1.  The juvenile court may order the parent or guardian of a child to refrain from engaging in or continuing any conduct which the juvenile court believes has caused or tended to cause the child to become subject to the jurisdiction of the juvenile court.

Terms Used In Nevada Revised Statutes 62E.290

  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • person: means a natural person, any form of business or social organization and any other nongovernmental legal entity including, but not limited to, a corporation, partnership, association, trust or unincorporated organization. See Nevada Revised Statutes 0.039

2.  If the child is less than 18 years of age, the juvenile court may order:

(a) The parent or guardian of the child; and

(b) Any sibling or other person who is living in the same household as the child over whom the juvenile court has jurisdiction, to attend or participate in counseling, with or without the child, including, but not limited to, counseling regarding parenting skills, alcohol or substance use disorders, or techniques of dispute resolution.
