Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 270:11-a

  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Nolo contendere: No contest-has the same effect as a plea of guilty, as far as the criminal sentence is concerned, but may not be considered as an admission of guilt for any other purpose.
  • person: means any individual, firm, co-partnership, corporation, company, association or joint-stock association, including any trustee, administrator, executor, receiver, assignee or other personal representative thereof. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 270:2
  • Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court.
Any person charged with a violation of the provisions of RSA 270; RSA 270-A; or N.H. Rev. Stat. Chapter 270-E on boats, floats, and rafts, excluding any offense for which the penalty is a misdemeanor or felony, may plead guilty or nolo contendere by mail by entering a plea as provided in N.H. Rev. Stat. § 502-A:19-b. If the plea is accepted by the court, the defendant shall not be required to appear as directed by the court.
