Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 555:4

  • Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
  • Interrogatories: Written questions asked by one party of an opposing party, who must answer them in writing under oath; a discovery device in a lawsuit.
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies corporate and politic as well as to individuals. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:9
  • Probate: Proving a will
If the person so cited refuses to appear, or to answer interrogatories upon oath respecting the estate, the judge may, by warrant, commit such person to the house of corrections, there to remain until such person consents to answer such interrogatories, or until released by the complainant or by order of the probate court.
