Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 34:15C-10.8

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 19. a. It shall be an unlawful practice and a violation of P.L.1960, c.39 (C. 56:8-1 et seq.) for any private career school, person, or entity to collect on a student’s institutional debt if the institutional financial aid agreement does not contain the language required under paragraph (3) of subsection c. of section 15 of P.L.2021, c.27 (C. 34:15C-10.4).

b. It shall be an unlawful practice and a violation of P.L.1960, c.39 (C. 56:8-1 et seq.) for a private career school to collect on the institutional debt of a student who attended a program in which a disorderly closure occurred.
