Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 4:20-16

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. A member of a township committee shall be allowed, for the time he is engaged in the performance of duties under this chapter, one dollar per day and fifty cents for a half day, to be paid by the person or persons employing him.

When such person or persons shall fail to pay the members of the committee their legal fees within thirty days after the service done, they may severally recover double the amount of such fees, with costs of suit, by action at law. Each one of the committee may be a witness for or against his companion in any such action.
