§ 309. Personal jurisdiction and service of process on non-domiciliary
Terms Used In N.Y. Not-for-Profit Corporation Law 309
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Service of process: The service of writs or summonses to the appropriate party.

A person, by becoming a director, officer, key person or agent of a corporation is subject to the personal jurisdiction of the supreme court of the state of New York, and in an action or proceeding by the attorney general under this chapter process may be served upon such person as provided in § 313 of the civil practice law and rules.
