If a judgment of acquittal is given on a general verdict and the defendant is not detained for any other legal cause, the defendant must be discharged as soon as judgment is given.

  • Acquittal:
    1. Judgement that a criminal defendant has not been proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
    2. A verdict of "not guilty."
