(a)  Each domestic or foreign corporation that fails or refuses to file its annual report for any year within the time prescribed by this chapter is subject to a penalty of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for each year to be assessed by the secretary of state.

Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 7-6-94

  • Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Foreign corporation: means a nonprofit corporation organized under laws other than the laws of this state. See Rhode Island General Laws 7-6-2
  • Interrogatories: Written questions asked by one party of an opposing party, who must answer them in writing under oath; a discovery device in a lawsuit.

(b)  Each domestic or foreign corporation that fails or refuses to answer truthfully and fully within the time prescribed by this chapter interrogatories propounded by the secretary of state in accordance with the provisions of this chapter, is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction may be fined in any amount not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500).
