Terms Used In South Carolina Code 12-24-60

  • Clerk of court: An officer appointed by the court to work with the chief judge in overseeing the court's administration, especially to assist in managing the flow of cases through the court and to maintain court records.
  • Deed: The legal instrument used to transfer title in real property from one person to another.
The clerk of court or register of deeds, before recording a deed subject to the fee imposed by this chapter, shall collect the fee and place a notation on the deed containing the following information: the date the deed was filed; the fee collected; and any other information required by the county. If the deed qualifies for an exemption under § 12-24-40, the word "exempt" must be placed in the notation.
