Terms Used In South Carolina Code 44-55-1520

  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
In all cases of civil action in which the violation of any of the provisions of § 44-55-1510 shall be pleaded, the limit of liability of the defendant shall be actual damages sustained by the plaintiff.
