- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
As provided by Subchapter C, Chapter 271, Local Government Code, a county or municipality may issue and sell for cash, at a public or private sale, certificates of obligation for the establishment and maintenance of a self-insurance fund under this subchapter.
