(a) Misdemeanors are classified according to the relative seriousness of the offense into three categories:
(1) Class A misdemeanors;
(2) Class B misdemeanors;
(3) Class C misdemeanors.
(b) An offense designated a misdemeanor in this code without specification as to punishment or category is a Class C misdemeanor.

Under the Texas Codes, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:| Class | Prison | Fine |

Terms Used In Texas Penal Code 12.03
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Misdemeanor: means an offense so designated by law or punishable by fine, by confinement in jail, or by both fine and confinement in jail. See Texas Penal Code 1.07
(c) Conviction of a Class C misdemeanor does not impose any legal disability or disadvantage.
