(1) A person interested in becoming a candidate for the office of State Board of Education member shall:

Terms Used In Utah Code 20A-14-104.1

  • Ballot: means the storage medium, including a paper, mechanical, or electronic storage medium, that records an individual voter's vote. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
  • Board: means the State Board of Education. See Utah Code 20A-14-101.1
  • Person: means :
         (24)(a) an individual;
         (24)(b) an association;
         (24)(c) an institution;
         (24)(d) a corporation;
         (24)(e) a company;
         (24)(f) a trust;
         (24)(g) a limited liability company;
         (24)(h) a partnership;
         (24)(i) a political subdivision;
         (24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and
         (24)(k) any other organization or entity. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Political party: means an organization of registered voters that has qualified to participate in an election by meeting the requirements of Chapter 8, Political Party Formation and Procedures. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
     (1)(a) file a declaration of candidacy in accordance with Sections 20A-9-201 and 20A-9-202;
     (1)(b) file a certificate of nomination in accordance with Sections 20A-9-501, 20A-9-502, and 20A-9-503; or
     (1)(c) seek placement on the ballot as a write-in candidate in accordance with Sections 20A-9-601 and 20A-9-602.
(2) The office of State Board of Education member may be filled by an individual running as a member of a political party, as unaffiliated, or as a write-in candidate.
