• Account: means the School and Institutional Trust Fund Management Account, created in Section 53D-1-203. See Utah Code 53D-1-102
• advocacy office: means the Land Trusts Protection and Advocacy Office created in Section 53D-2-201. See Utah Code 53D-1-102
• Advocacy office director: means the director of the Land Trusts Protection and Advocacy Office, appointed under Section 53D-2-203. See Utah Code 53D-1-102
• Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
• Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
• Ballot: means the storage medium, including a paper, mechanical, or electronic storage medium, that records an individual voter's vote. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
• Board: means the board of trustees established in Section 53D-1-301. See Utah Code 53D-1-102
• Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
• Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
• Director: means the director of the office. See Utah Code 53D-1-102
• Election: means a regular general election, a municipal general election, a statewide special election, a local special election, a regular primary election, a municipal primary election, and a special district election. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
• Enabling act: means the act of Congress, dated July 16, 1894, enabling the people of Utah to form a constitution and state government and to be admitted into the Union. See Utah Code 53D-1-102
• Fiduciary: A trustee, executor, or administrator.
• Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
• Land: includes :Utah Code 68-3-12.5
• Month: means a calendar month, unless otherwise expressed. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
• Nominating committee: means the committee established under Section 53D-1-501. See Utah Code 53D-1-102
• Office: means the School and Institutional Trust Fund Office, created in Section 53D-1-201. See Utah Code 53D-1-102
• Political party: means an organization of registered voters that has qualified to participate in an election by meeting the requirements of Chapter 8, Political Party Formation and Procedures. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
• Process: means a writ or summons issued in the course of a judicial proceeding. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
• Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
• State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
• Swear: includes "affirm. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
• Trust fund: means money derived from:

  (a)	the sale or use of land granted to the state under Sections 6, 8, and 12 of the enabling act;

  (b)	proceeds referred to in Section 9 of the enabling act from the sale of public land; and

  (c)

  revenue and assets referred to in Utah Constitution, Article X, Section 5, Subsections Utah Code 53D-1-102 trust lands: means those properties granted by the United States in the Utah Enabling Act to the state in trust, and other lands transferred to the trust, which must be managed for the benefit of: (a)  the state's public education system; or (b)  the institutions of the state which are designated by the Utah Enabling Act as beneficiaries of trust lands. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5 Vacancy: means : (a)  except as provided in Subsection (75)(b), the absence of an individual to serve in a position created by state constitution or state statute, whether that absence occurs because of death, disability, disqualification, resignation, or other cause ; or (b)  in relation to a candidate for a position created by state constitution or state statute, the removal of a candidate due to the candidate's death, resignation, or disqualification.
