- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Annual maintenance utility: means a tool within the system that:
(a) is designed to comply with Section 20A-2-504; (b) a county clerk is required to run on an annual basis; and (c) identifies each inactive voter and each voter to be removed from the voter registration database. See Utah Code 20A-2-501 - Assistant U.S. Attorney: A federal prosecutor who represents the U.S. government and its citizens when a federal statute has been violated.
- Canvass: means the review of election returns and the official declaration of election results by the board of canvassers. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- City: includes , depending on population, a metro township as defined in Section 10-3c-102. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Database: means the statewide voter registration database, described in Subsection 20A-2-502(1)(a) that:
(a) is maintained and updated via the system; and (b) uses information relative to voter registration and voting, including information that is obtained from a voter, a governmental entity, as defined in Section 63G-2-103, or another state. See Utah Code 20A-2-501 - Department: means the Department of Public Safety created in Section 53-1-103. See Utah Code 53-1-102
- Duplicate voter utility: means a tool within the system that runs a set of queries to identify potential duplicate voter records. See Utah Code 20A-2-501
- Election: means a regular general election, a municipal general election, a statewide special election, a local special election, a regular primary election, a municipal primary election, and a special district election. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Federal regulation: means a federal executive order, rule, or regulation that infringes upon, prohibits, restricts, or requires individual licensure for, or registration of, the purchase, ownership, possession, transfer, or use of a firearm, ammunition, or firearm accessory. See Utah Code 53-5a-202
- Firearm: means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-10-501. See Utah Code 53-5a-202
- Law enforcement agency: means an entity or division of:
(i) (A) the federal government, a state, or a political subdivision of a state; (B) a state institution of higher education; or (C) a private institution of higher education, if the entity or division is certified by the commissioner under Title 53, Chapter 19, Certification of Private Law Enforcement Agency; and (ii) that exists primarily to prevent and detect crime and enforce criminal laws, statutes, and ordinances. - Law enforcement officer: means the same as that term is defined in Section 53-13-103. See Utah Code 53-5a-202
- Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
- Official register: means the official record furnished to election officials by the election officer that contains the information required by Section 20A-5-401. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Peace officer: means any officer certified in accordance with Title 53, Chapter 13, Peace Officer Classifications. See Utah Code 53-1-102
- Person: means :Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Political subdivision: means a city, town, metro township, county, special district, or water conservancy district. See Utah Code 53-5a-202
- Poll worker: includes election judges. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Property: includes both real and personal property. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Regular general election: means the election held throughout the state on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered year for the purposes established in Section 20A-1-201. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
- System: means the statewide voter registration system described in Subsection 20A-2-502(1)(a), including the database and all information within the system or database. See Utah Code 20A-2-501
- Town: includes , depending on population, a metro township as defined in Section 10-3c-102. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Utah Code: means the 1953 recodification of the Utah Code, as amended, unless the text expressly references a portion of the 1953 recodification of the Utah Code as it existed:Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Vehicle: means every device in, upon, or by which any person or property is or may be transported or drawn upon a highway, excepting devices used exclusively upon stationary rails or tracks. See Utah Code 53-1-102
- Voter: means an individual who:
(a) meets the requirements for voting in an election; (b) meets the requirements of election registration; (c) is registered to vote; and (d) is listed in the official register book. See Utah Code 20A-1-102 - Voter identification verification tool: means a tool within the system that compares data in a voter registration record to Driver License Division data and Social Security Administration data to verify voter identification. See Utah Code 20A-2-501
- Voter registration deadline: means the registration deadline provided in Section 20A-2-102. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
