  • Air pollution: means the presence in the outdoor atmosphere of one or more substances which are or may be harmful or injurious to human health, welfare or safety, to animal or plant life, or to property, or which unreasonably interfere with the enjoyment by the people of life or property.   • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Board: means the State Air Pollution Control Board. See Virginia Code 10.1-1300
  • Department: means the Department of Environmental Quality. See Virginia Code 10.1-1300
  • Dismissal: The dropping of a case by the judge without further consideration or hearing. Source:

  • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • State: when applied to a part of the United States, includes any of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the United States Virgin Islands. See Virginia Code 1-245
  • Supreme Court: means the Supreme Court of Virginia. See Virginia Code 1-249
  • Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
