Terms Used In West Virginia Code > Chapter 18A > Article 3B - Educators' Professional Standards Board

  • Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
  • Classroom teacher: means a professional educator who has a direct instructional or counseling relationship with students and who spends the majority of his or her time in this capacity. See West Virginia Code 18A-1-1
  • Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
  • Principal: means a professional educator who functions as an agent of the county board and has responsibility for the supervision, management and control of a school or schools within the guidelines established by the county board. See West Virginia Code 18A-1-1
  • State: when applied to a part of the United States and not restricted by the context, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" also include the said district and territories. See West Virginia Code 2-2-10
