Terms Used In Wisconsin Statutes 99.06

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.
  • State: when applied to states of the United States, includes the District of Columbia, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the several territories organized by Congress. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01

The department in the name of the state may commence an action to enjoin a violation of this chapter or any rule promulgated under this chapter and may prosecute such violation in any court of appropriate jurisdiction.
