Terms Used In Wisconsin Statutes > Chapter 157

  • Account: means any deposit or credit account with a bank, including a demand, time, savings, passbook, share draft or like account, other than an account evidenced by a certificate of deposit. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Afternoon: means the period of a day between noon and midnight. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Bailee: means a person that by a warehouse receipt, bill of lading, or other document of title acknowledges possession of goods and contracts to deliver them. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Banking day: means the part of a day on which a bank is open to the public for carrying on substantially all of its banking functions. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Carrier: means a person that issues a bill of lading. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Clearinghouse: means an association of banks or other payers regularly clearing items. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Communicable disease: means any disease that the department of health services determines, by rule, to be communicable in fact. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Consignee: means a person named in a bill of lading to which or to whose order the bill promises delivery. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Consignor: means a person named in a bill of lading as the person from which the goods have been received for shipment. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • County board: means the county board of supervisors. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Customer: means a person having an account with a bank or for whom a bank has agreed to collect items, including a bank that maintains an account at another bank. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Delivery order: means a record that contains an order to deliver goods directed to a warehouse, carrier, or other person that in the ordinary course of business issues warehouse receipts or bills of lading. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Documentary draft: means a draft to be presented for acceptance or payment if specified documents, certificated securities or instructions for uncertificated securities, or other certificates, statements or the like are to be received by the drawee or other payer before acceptance or payment of the draft. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Draft: means a draft as defined in s. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Drawee: means a person ordered in a draft to make a payment. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Good faith: means honesty in fact and the observance of reasonable commercial standards of fair dealing. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Goods: means all things that are treated as movable for the purposes of a contract for storage or transportation. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Governing body: has the meaning given in s. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.407
  • Grantor: includes every person from or by whom any freehold estate or interest passes in or by any deed; and "grantee" includes every person to whom any such estate or interest passes in like manner. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Heretofore: means any time previous to the day on which the statute containing it takes effect; "hereafter" means the time after the statute containing such word takes effect. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Insertion: when used to indicate the publication of a legal notice more than one time, means once each week for consecutive weeks, the last of which shall be at least one week before the act or event, unless otherwise specified by law. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.407
  • Issuer: means a bailee that issues a document of title or, in the case of an unaccepted delivery order, the person that orders the possessor of goods to deliver. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Item: means an instrument or a promise or order to pay money handled by a bank for collection or payment. See Wisconsin Statutes 404.104
  • Legal notice: means every notice required by law or by order of a court to be published in a newspaper or other publication, except notices required by private and local laws to be published in newspapers, and includes all of the following:
      (a)    Every publication of laws, ordinances, resolutions, financial statements, budgets and proceedings intended to give notice in an area. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.407
  • Live birth: means the complete expulsion or extraction from his or her mother, of a human being, at any stage of development, who, after the expulsion or extraction, breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut, and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, a cesarean section, or an abortion, as defined in s. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Minor: means a person who has not attained the age of 18 years, except that for purposes of investigating or prosecuting a person who is alleged to have violated a state or federal criminal law or any civil law or municipal ordinance, "minor" does not include a person who has attained the age of 17 years. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Municipality: has the meaning in s. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.407
  • Personal property: includes money, goods, chattels, things in action, evidences of debt and energy. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Personal representative: means a person, however denominated, who is authorized to administer a decedent's estate. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Record: means information that is inscribed on a tangible medium or that is stored in an electronic or other medium and is retrievable in perceivable form. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • seal: includes the word "seal" the letters "L S" and a scroll or other device intended to represent a seal, if any is affixed in the proper place for a seal, as well as an impression of a seal on the instrument. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Shipper: means a person that enters into a contract of transportation with a carrier. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Sworn: includes "affirmed" in all cases where by law an affirmation may be substituted for an oath. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Town board: means the town board of supervisors. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Warehouse: means a person engaged in the business of storing goods for hire. See Wisconsin Statutes 407.102
  • Week: means 7 consecutive days. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.504
  • Wisconsin newspapers legal notices Internet site: means an Internet site maintained by Wisconsin newspapers for the purpose of providing and maintaining an electronic version of printed and published legal notices. See Wisconsin Statutes 403.407
