Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 27:23-38

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. In addition to any punishment or penalty provided by other sections of this act, every registration certificate and every license certificate to drive motor vehicles may be suspended or revoked and any person may be prohibited from obtaining a driver’s license or a registration certificate and the reciprocity privileges of a nonresident may be suspended or revoked by the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles for a violation of any of the provisions of this act, after due notice in writing of such proposed suspension, revocation or prohibition and the ground thereof, and otherwise in accordance with the powers, practice and procedure established by those provisions of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes applicable to such suspension, revocation or prohibition.
