- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. The life saving medical services provided by first aid, rescue or ambulance squad members and by licensed physicians and surgeons have proven to be vitally important to the health, safety, and welfare of injured persons in this State.
A law enforcement officer shall permit any first aid, rescue or ambulance squad member, or any physician or surgeon licensed to practice medicine or surgery under chapter 9 of Title 45 of the Revised Statutes, to provide medical aid that the member, physician or surgeon considers appropriate to an injured person, unless in the judgment of the law enforcement officer in charge, considerations of the public health, safety and welfare are of overriding concern in a particular situation.
Law enforcement officers shall recognize and implement the public policy set forth in this section.
