Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 27:7-12

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
No consent, grant or franchise for the laying of any railroad or street railway crossings, gas pipes, water pipes, electric conduits or other piping, telegraph, telephone, electric light or power poles in or upon any road in the state highway system prior to its being taken over as a state highway, shall be given except under restrictions, regulations and conditions approved, and officially made known to the body with authority to issue such privilege, by the commissioner.

No issue of such consent, grant or franchise by a public body shall operate as a waiver of liability in favor of the person laying or erecting such works in or upon such highway or any portion thereof.
