Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 48:2-17

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. The board may require every public utility to file with the board a statement in writing, verified by the oaths of the president and secretary of the public utility, setting forth the name, title of office or position and post-office address, and the authority, power and duties of every officer, member of the board of directors, trustees, executive committee, superintendent, chief or head of construction and operation, or department, division or line of construction and operation thereof, in such form as to disclose the source and origin of each administrative act, rule, decision, order or other action of the corporation.

Every public utility shall, within 10 days after any change is made in the title of, or authority, powers or duties appertaining to any such office or position or the person holding the same, file with the board a like statement, verified in like manner, setting forth such change.

Every public utility shall file with the board the name, address and telephone number of the person or persons whom the board may contact, at any time, in the event of an emergency.
