Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 48:4-43
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- magistrate: includes any judge, municipal magistrate or officer or other person having the powers of a committing magistrate. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
- person: as used in this chapter means and includes any individual, copartnership, association, corporation or joint stock company, their lessees, trustees, or receivers appointed by any court. See New Jersey Statutes 48:4-1
Any driver of a motor vehicle who shall fail or refuse to exhibit upon request of a proper person the evidence of insurance or other financial coverage provided for in this article shall, upon conviction, be adjudged a disorderly person and shall be liable to a penalty of not more than one hundred dollars or imprisonment for a term of not more than ninety days, or both a fine and imprisonment not exceeding the aforesaid maximum, at the discretion of the magistrate before whom the conviction shall be had.
