Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 48:4-9

  • autobus: as used in this chapter means and includes, except as hereinafter noted, any motor vehicle or motorbus operated over public highways or public places in this State for the transportation of passengers for hire in intrastate business, whether used in regular route, casino, charter or special bus operations, notwithstanding such motor vehicle or motorbus may be used in interstate commerce.   • street: as used in this chapter means and includes any street, avenue, park, parkway, highway, road or other public place. See New Jersey Statutes 48:4-1
The holder of a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the operation of an autobus may use such autobus for special or occasional trips off its regular route whenever the autobus is not required for the operation of the schedule on its regular route.

No special or occasional trip shall be operated in competition with any autobus route or a street railway line. The provisions of this paragraph shall apply to operators of special or occasional trips whether or not they hold certificates of public convenience and necessity.
