Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 58:10-31

  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
For the purpose of removing or causing the removal of the pipe line as aforesaid, the commission may enter upon any lands, bridges or structures and shall not be liable for any damage done thereto by such removal, nor for any damage resulting from such removal, but the damages shall be recoverable at law in any court of competent jurisdiction from the owners or users of the pipe line.
