Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 6:1-87

  • Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
The commissioner may institute, in any court of competent jurisdiction, an action in the name of the State to prevent, restrain, correct, or abate any violation of any provision of this act, and the court shall adjudge to the State such relief, by way of injunction or otherwise, as may be proper under all the facts and circumstances of the case, to effectuate the purposes of this act.
