An appeal may be taken from the order of the court committing a person to the State prison under this chapter in the same manner as appeals are taken from convictions in the criminal cases under the Penal Code.

  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Court: includes any official authorized to impose sentence for a public offense. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 1703
