Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 70 ILCS 925/85

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     This Act shall not be construed to limit the jurisdiction of the City of Springfield to territory outside the limits of the District nor to impair any power now possessed by or hereafter granted to the City of Springfield or to cities generally. Property owned by and exclusively used by the Commission shall be exempt from taxation and shall be subject to condemnation by the State and any municipal corporation or agency of the State for any State or municipal purpose under the provisions for the exercise of the right of eminent domain under the Eminent Domain Act.
