  • abandoned: means :

    Indiana Code 4-6-14-1

  • Attorney: includes a counselor or other person authorized to appear and represent a party in an action or special proceeding. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Decedent: A deceased person.
  • director: refers to the director of the division of consumer protection appointed under IC 4-6-9-2. See Indiana Code 16-52-1-1
  • Discovery: Lawyers' examination, before trial, of facts and documents in possession of the opponents to help the lawyers prepare for trial.
  • division: refers to the division of consumer protection created by IC 4-6-9-1. See Indiana Code 16-52-1-2
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Executive session: A portion of the Senate's daily session in which it considers executive business.
  • fetal death: refers to a stillbirth. See Indiana Code 16-49-6-1
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.

  • insurer: has the meaning set forth in IC 27-8-11-1(e). See Indiana Code 16-51-1-8
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Liabilities: The aggregate of all debts and other legal obligations of a particular person or legal entity.
  • maternal morbidity: refers to any health condition occurring to an individual in Indiana that is attributable to or aggravated by pregnancy and childbirth. See Indiana Code 16-50-1-1
  • maternal mortality: refers to death, occurring in Indiana, of an individual during pregnancy through up to one (1) year after pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or management of the pregnancy. See Indiana Code 16-50-1-2
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
  • office setting: means a location of a qualified provider where health care services are provided and that:

  • patient service revenue: includes similar terms, including net patient service revenue and patient care service revenue. See Indiana Code 16-51-1-4
  • personal information: has the meaning set forth in Indiana Code 4-6-14-3
  • Population: has the meaning set forth in Ind. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • prior law: refers to the statutes concerning education that are repealed or amended in the recodification act of the 2005 regular session of the general assembly as the statutes existed before the effective date of the applicable or corresponding provision of the recodification act of the 2005 regular session of the general assembly. See Indiana Code 20-17-1-1
  • prior law: refers to the statutes concerning education finance, including provisions related to the Indiana state teachers' retirement fund and public school corporation property tax controls, that are repealed or amended in the recodification act of the 2006 regular session of the general assembly as the statutes existed before the effective date of the applicable or corresponding provision of the recodification act of the 2006 regular session of the general assembly.   • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.

  • qualified provider: means an individual or entity owned in whole or in part by an Indiana nonprofit hospital system and that is duly licensed or legally authorized to provide health care services. See Indiana Code 16-51-1-10
  • regulated professional: means an individual who is regulated by an entity described in Indiana Code 4-6-14-4
  • review team: refers to :

  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
  • SOFR: means suicide and overdose fatality review. See Indiana Code 16-49.5-1-2
  • SOFR team: refers to :

  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
  • temporary health care services agency: means a person engaged for hire in the business of providing or procuring temporary employment in health care facilities for health care personnel. See Indiana Code 16-52-1-5
  • United States: includes the District of Columbia and the commonwealths, possessions, states in free association with the United States, and the territories. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
