Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 26 Sec. 1414-A

  • Independent living services: means services that promote or train people with significant disabilities in managing their personal affairs, participating in day-to-day life in the community, fulfilling a range of social roles and making decisions that lead to self-determination and the minimization of physical or psychological dependence on others.   • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
The department may make grants to establish independent living services. Funds must be disbursed and audited in accordance with departmental grant policies and procedures. The department shall submit an annual accounting of the program to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over labor matters. [PL 1995, c. 560, Pt. F, §13 (NEW).]
