Michigan Laws 324.80148 – Operating motorboat at more than slow–no wake speed; prohibitions; exceptions

(1) Subject to the exceptions described in subsection (2), a person shall not operate a motorboat at more than slow—no wake speed if any of the following circumstances exist:
(a) A person is located on or in the bow of the motorboat, and that motorboat is not manufactured to provide bow seating.
Terms Used In Michigan Laws 324.80148
- Motorboat: means a vessel propelled wholly or in part by machinery. See Michigan Laws 324.80103
- Operate: means to be in control of a vessel while the vessel is under way and is not secured in some manner such as being docked or at anchor. See Michigan Laws 324.80103
- Person: means an individual, partnership, corporation, association, governmental entity, or other legal entity. See Michigan Laws 324.301
- Port: means left, and reference is to the port side of a vessel or to the left side of the vessel. See Michigan Laws 324.80104
- Starboard: means right, and reference is to the starboard side of a vessel or to the right side of the vessel. See Michigan Laws 324.80104
- Vessel: means every description of watercraft used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water. See Michigan Laws 324.80104
(b) A person or a portion of a person’s body extends beyond the exterior port or starboard walls of the hull of the motorboat.
(2) This section does not apply to either of the following:
(a) A person engaged in the operation of a sailboat that is not being powered by a motor.
(b) A person on board a vessel who is attempting to anchor, moor, dock, or otherwise secure the vessel.
