  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
     Within 14 days after the return day of the summons, if personally served, or if not served then within the time prescribed in the published notice, the owner or any person interested adversely to the claims mentioned in the notice, may enter an appearance by attorney, in the book of common rules, with an order that a copy of the complaint be served upon him, and serve notice of such appearance and order upon the attorney filing the complaint, who shall serve a copy thereof as required, within 10 days thereafter, or the default of the complainant (or intervenor) may be duly entered in said book, made absolute, and judgment of discontinuance entered as in personal actions.
