A peace officer, upon making contact with a child who is in need of assistance, may refer the child and child’s parent or parents or guardian to a clinically credentialed community-based provider for immediate crisis intervention, de-escalation, and respite care services.

Terms Used In Nebraska Statutes 43-251.02

  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • Peace officer: shall include sheriffs, coroners, jailers, marshals, police officers, state highway patrol officers, members of the National Guard on active service by direction of the Governor during periods of emergency, and all other persons with similar authority to make arrests.
