Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 26:8-57

  • birth: means the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, which, after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta attached.   • month: means a calendar month, and the word "year" means a calendar year. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
  • registrar: means the local registrar of vital statistics of any district. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
In case no birth or death is registered during any month, the local registrar shall be paid the sum of twenty-five cents for each report to that effect, if such report be made promptly as required by this chapter.
