Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 27:7-51

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
The erection and construction of the piers, wharves, or docks, as situate within the territorial jurisdiction of New Jersey, shall be subject to the laws of New Jersey, as such laws apply to the construction of public highways in this state, when state money is used in the construction of the whole or a part of such highway.
