Terms Used In South Carolina Code 63-19-1630

  • Child: means a person under the age of eighteen. See South Carolina Code 63-1-40
  • Department: means the Department of Juvenile Justice. See South Carolina Code 63-19-20
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
A child committed to an institution under the provisions of this chapter may be transferred by the department to an institution, facility, or vocational training center under its jurisdiction.
