As Affecting Competence to Testify

Witnesses are no longer disqualified from testifying bases on their lack of religious belief, as was the common law rule.{footnote}United States v. Lee, 26 F. Cas. 908 (C.C.D. Cal. 1834) (No. 15,586).{/footnote}  See also COMPETENCY.

Admissibility

Evidence of a witness’ religious beliefs or lack thereof is not admissible on the question of his or her credibility.{footnote}FRE 610; 27 ALR4th 1167.{/footnote}
