Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 512:45

  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies corporate and politic as well as to individuals. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:9
  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
  • Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
If any person shall demand or receive from a defendant in connection with the settlement of any trustee suit any sum of money or other thing of value in excess of the provisions of N.H. Rev. Stat. § 512:44 he shall be guilty of a violation.
