Terms Used In Vermont Statutes Title 12 Sec. 6007
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
- Justice: when applied to a person, other than a Justice of the Supreme Court, shall mean a justice of the peace for the county for which he or she is elected or appointed. See
- Person: shall include any natural person, corporation, municipality, the State of Vermont or any department, agency, or subdivision of the State, and any partnership, unincorporated association, or other legal entity. See
- said: when used by way of reference to a person or thing shall apply to the same person or thing last mentioned. See
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States may apply to the District of Columbia and any territory and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. See
§ 6007. Arrest of principal in relief of bail

Greeting:

D. before the Superior Court next to be held at ……………….. , within and for the county of ……………….. , on the ……………….. day of ……………… A.D. 20 …… , charged with the crime of ……………………. , in the sum of ……………. dollars; and whereas the said A. B. has this day filed with me his or her application, in writing, praying for a warrant to arrest the said C. D., to commit him or her to jail in discharge of the recognizance of the said A. B.;
Therefore, by the authority of the State of Vermont, you are hereby commanded to apprehend the body of the said C. D., and him or her commit to the keeper of the jail in the county of ……………………. , within said jail, who is hereby commanded to receive the body of the said C. D., and him or her safely keep until he or she is discharged according to law.
