In this article, unless the context otherwise requires:

Terms Used In Arizona Laws 23-495

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association or society, as well as a natural person. See Arizona Laws 1-215
  • Private employer: means a sole proprietor, corporation, partnership, limited liability company or other entity with one or more employees. See Arizona Laws 23-495
  • United States: includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Arizona Laws 1-215
  • Veteran: means a person who served on active duty in the United States armed forces and who was discharged or released under honorable conditions. See Arizona Laws 23-495

1. "DD-214" means a United States department of defense report of separation form or its predecessor or successor forms.

2. "Private employer" means a sole proprietor, corporation, partnership, limited liability company or other entity with one or more employees. Private employer does not include this state, a political subdivision of this state or a public institution of higher education.

3. "Veteran" means a person who served on active duty in the United States armed forces and who was discharged or released under honorable conditions.

4. "Veterans’ preference employment policy" means a private employer’s voluntary preference for hiring, promoting or retaining a veteran over another qualified applicant or employee.
