  • Board: means the board of directors of a memorial district. See California Military and Veterans Code 1170
  • City: includes city and county and "incorporated town" but does not include "unincorporated town" or "village. See California Public Utilities Code 19
  • Commission: means the Public Utilities Commission created by §. See California Public Utilities Code 20
  • County: includes city and county. See California Public Utilities Code 18
  • District: means a memorial district organized under the provisions of this chapter. See California Military and Veterans Code 1170
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
