- Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
- Property: includes real and personal property. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
The answer shall indicate the nature and derivation of defendant‘s interest. If the defendant, by answer, disclaims any interest in the described property or in plaintiff‘s claimed interest, no further answer is necessary.
