Individual Income Taxes

An income tax is a government tax imposed on an individual taxpayer that is based on the taxpayer’s taxable income. It varies by jurisdiction. Taxable income of taxpayers resident in the jurisdiction is generally computed as total income less income producing expenses and other deductions. Most jurisdictions require self-assessment of the tax and require payers to withhold tax from those payments. Taxpayers who don’t pay tax on time are subject to penalties, which may include jail.
